 Chalkware Cats by Dennett

Guests at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast tell tales of hearing cats in the house, though no "live" cats reside there. Some guests who have stayed in the Abby and Andrew Suite tell us they can feel the cat's paws walk across their covers at night. One explaination could be about a story in the Knowlton letters that say a friend of the Borden family visiting from New York told Lizzie she was being bothered by their cat. Lizzie allegedly picked up the cat, left the room and said that the cat would 'never' bother her again. There are more stories about the cats at the Borden home, so when you visit, be sure to ask your tour guide and host for the "full story". Each chalkware cat is created with loving hands and has a unique face with beautiful eyes unlike any other. They are made of heavy plaster and polished to a sleek, smooth finish. Don't be surprised if your guests think there is a real cat or kitten sitting or lying very still, watching them with a calm stare. The faces are hand painted by Patricia Dennett, a local artisan. She suggests keeping your cat dry (cats don't like to get wet) and cleaning with only a soft dry cloth. Each cat comes with a specially designed card for gift giving
