Susie was a great guide. She even included her own personal experiences in her talk. Good story teller. Beautiful walk around Atlanta in the evening. A fun night.
Buffalo’s haunted legacy is woven through its dark history, with sites like the Iron Island Museum. Originally a church and later a funeral home, Iron Island is known for its unsettling atmosphere and ghostly sightings, with many claiming to feel the presence of the spirits left behind. Shadows are often seen drifting through the building, and unexplained sounds echo through the halls, creating an intense otherworldly experience that draws both visitors and investigators alike.
Another infamous site, the Buffalo Central Terminal, is a decaying monument to the city’s past. Once a bustling train station, it now stands eerily silent, frequented only by those searching for lingering spirits. Abandoned for decades, the terminal has an ominous energy, with reports of phantom footsteps, shadowy figures, and an overwhelming sense of sorrow. Those who explore its darkened halls are often left feeling haunted themselves, carrying a bit of Buffalo’s ghostly past with them when they leave.
The Buffalo State Asylum is one of the city’s most unnerving places, an institution where pain and suffering were all too common. Built in the 1800s, the asylum housed countless patients, many of whom endured harsh treatments and confinement. Today, visitors report hearing distant cries, whispers, and footsteps echoing through the abandoned wards, as if the souls of former patients still wander the grounds, trapped within the walls of their former torment.
At Buffalo Naval Park, ghostly remnants of wartime tragedy linger on the ships docked in the harbor. Veterans and visitors alike have reported eerie encounters aboard these vessels, from the sounds of heavy boots pacing on the decks to apparitions of soldiers appearing in uniform.
*Locations to mention: Iron Island Museum, Buffalo Central Terminal, Buffalo State Asylum, Buffalo Naval Park
There are so many ghostly tales to tell in Buffalo, but few are as unsettling and nightmare-inducing as The Ballroom. Deep within its basement resides a residual haunting with a very bloody, gruesome surprise. It could quite possibly be the ethereal recording of a card game gone bad. Don’t expect to forget an image like that anytime soon.
The War of 1812 almost proved to be the complete downfall of Buffalo, NY. Vengeful British set the town ablaze and killed many of its people in an act of violent revenge. The spirits from this brutal display of power are a dark stain on the city’s past, forever serving as a reminder of just how close Buffalo came to being wiped off the map.
There are a number of architectural wonders in Buffalo, from the Old Erie County Hall to the towering Rand Building. Not only are they visually interesting, but they carry with them spectral relics from the past. Be it a mischievous spirit 13 stories high terrorizing a radio station or the lost souls looking for their remains, these beautiful buildings are a great addition to any ghost tour.
Old Erie County Jail
Built atop the former Franklin Square Cemetery, the Old Erie County Hall holds centuries of haunted history. From ghostly apparitions in the basement to strange voices in the Clerk’s office, visitors frequently encounter unsettling sights. Some claim to see President McKinley’s ghostly body lying in state while chilling figures emerge from the old tunnels, forever haunting this historic Buffalo landmark.
Rand Building
The Rand Building may be a Buffalo landmark, but beneath its iconic exterior lies a history haunted by past lives. On the 12th and 13th floors, radio station staff report chilling encounters: footsteps echo through empty halls, a cold hand grips shoulders, and static-filled broadcasts are interrupted by eerie whispers. Some say it's Henry, the carpenter who perished in a fire on this very ground, lingering still.
Town Ballroom
Once the vibrant Town Casino, the Town Ballroom hosted legends like Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra—and, it seems, a few permanent residents. Mobsters and high-stakes gamblers frequented the basement, where secret card games allegedly turned deadly. Today, chilling encounters abound shadowy figures, disembodied voices, and the apparition of a man with a slit throat, all lingering as silent reminders of Buffalo’s golden yet haunted era.
