Where can I park?

A:

The recommended parking options are 1) Pearl st., 2) the lot behind the house, and 3) metered street parking.  Please note, we do not keep change for parking meters on site.

Can I stay in the room where the parents were murdered?

A:

Yes. Where the stepmother was murdered which is the John Morse Bedroom but where Mr. Borden was killed is a common area where you cannot stay the night.

The house was bought in May 2021. What changes have you made?

A:

We upgraded the quality of an overnight stay and have implemented or are implementing several improvements:

  • Unbelievably comfortable new mattresses (GhostBeds), replacing nearly 20-year old mattresses
  • New luxury linen, 1800 thread count
  • New duvets and duvet covers
  • All new pillows: bamboo and more fluffy luxury pillows, replacing flat pillows
  • Automated check-in: Checking in and leaving has never been easier, with automated checkin and checkout process
  • Phillips Hue lighting and switches
  • Nest Thermostats
  • Blackout top/down, bottom/up blinds to provide a darker room and more comfortable sleeping environment, replacing plastic pull down coverings that did not provide adequate covering

Q:

Is the house really haunted?

A:

Yes. While some guests do not witnesses anything, many regularly claim to experience all manner of strange things throughout house. This includes strange odors, voices, objects moving on their own, feeling touched at night, and footsteps, to seeing full-body apparitions. Of course, we do not guarantee that guests will have any haunting experience while staying here.

How Far in advance do I need to book a room?

A:

All rooms are first come first serve, so we recommend booking as early as possible to get the space you want. October and early August are busiest of the year.

A:

She was acquitted, but no one really knows for sure who committed – or conspired- in the fateful murders on August 4, 1892!

A:

The beds in every room but the basement are GhostBeds. If you want one in your home, each order you make will make a donation to the Lizzie Borden House, which will help with upkeep and maintenance of the old house, as well as assist us in acquiring historic artifacts and newspapers!

Each room has one bed. However, you may book a “suite” that has 2 beds and even a rollout bed for a capacity of 5 people.

While there are no TVs inside the rooms, we do offer projectors that will allow you to project Netflix or other media from your device to the projector, and onto the wall. To rent a projector, please make sure to add it to your reservation during checkout, ask a staff member, or email us in advance!

Can I do something special for my room reservation?

A:

Yes! Whether you’re looking to impress that special someone with rose pedals, a stuffed animal, or our favorites: a hatchet and haunted doll; we can help make your stay extra special. These requests require a reasonably small charge, but if you have any funny, romantic, or scary requests for your reservation, please let us know and we would be happy to help.

Yes, you may bring your own food. Please clearly label your food and store it in the refrigerator or freezer in the kitchen.

Yes, you may eat in your room, but we ask that you remove your trash to the dumpster outside to prevent unsavory messes and smells in the room.

Will I have access to the basement?

A:

Basement access is restricted to supervised activities only. While you may have access to the basement, you may not enter into employee only zones, which are marked off by signs.

Where do I check in?

A:

Check-in is automatic and you do not need to go anywhere to check in. Please refer to the email you used when placing yoru order for check in code, directions, and details

You will be sent an automatic check-in code to access the house, along with directions on how to get into your room, sent the day after you have made your reservation, as well as at around 1pm the day before your check-in.

If you make a reservation within 36 hours, you will be sent the code and instructions 15 to 30 minutes after you have made your reservation. Check-in codes will not be active until 5pm. You must use either the side door, or the front door, depending on which room you have booked. The door access codes will be valid for the remainder of your stay, until checkout at 10am.

You must enter the code, followed by the checkmark on the keypad.

Check-in is at 5pm, after the last house tour has finished and the floors have been vacuumed.

Is there luggage assistance?

A:

We do not currently provide a baggage holding area and are not responsible for any baggage left unattended. If you would like to leave some small luggage behind the front desk before your room is available, you may ask to do so, but we cannot make any guarantees as we are a small location and do not have adequate space.

Can I use the kitchen?

The kitchen is not a common area and we ask that you do not use the antique stove. However, you may ask to store your food in the fridge.

We offer a rotating menu with vegetarian options, fruit, orange juice, coffee, pancakes, and eggs.

What are the common areas?

A:

The first floor, except the kitchen, is a common area you may rest and gather in, including: the dining room, parlor, and sitting room. There may be a ghost hunt from 10pm to midnight or a ghost tour that walks through at 9pm that requires these guests to access the first floor, and we ask that you please yield the space to these groups when they are present.

No, there are no ramps or elevator access in this historic building.

We do not allow this currently due to allergies among staff and other guests. We are looking for ways to accommodate this in the future.

No, only the Andrew and Abby Borden Suite has its own private bathroom. The other bathrooms are shared among other guests.

When is breakfast? How does it work?

A:

If you have reserved a seat for breakfast ($20/person made at booking, but we can add this by request beforehand), you must be seated in the dining room by 8:30am. If you are not seated by 8:30am, they will be unable to make breakfast for you, even if you have previously paid. So, make sure you’re seated before 8:30!

What's included in the house tours?

A:

The house tour is the only tour that takes you through all of the rooms of the house. However, to get a tour of the basement, you’ll need to select the extended tour option for each member in your party at checkout!

What's the extended tour?

A:

Most tours offer extended tours, which is a bonus at the conclusion of the tour. This is available at an extra charge. Extended house tours include a basement tour; and evening ghost tours include a tour through the first floor of the house only.

What is the ghost tour?

A:

Ghost tours are offered in the evenings and depart from and return to the Lizzie Borden house. These tours focus on 200 years of Fall River’s incredible yet little known history; tragic and strange events; and of course, corresponding hauntings witnessed to this day. Ghost tours are new as of June 2021 and offer a totally new glimpse into the city and community that the Borden family called home. Ghost tours are about 60 to 90 minutes in duration.

Q:

What's included in the ghost hunt?

A:

Ghost hunts are two hours long and divide guests into teams. Each team will have a set of ghost hunt equipment, and a dedicated area to hunt in – either the first floor, or the basement – and typically, one hour is reserved for each floor. Equipment includes EMF detectors, EVP readers and recorders, spirit/ghost boxes with radio frequencies, battery testers, a flashlight, and laser grids.

You will be accompanied by a staff member and ghost hunter, who will explain a brief history of the house, things commonly experienced by guests and on ghost hunts, tell you why we ghost hunt, how to ghost hunt, and explain each of the equipment used. They will also divide you into teams and deploy you into the best areas for your hunt!

Yes! We provide a tour of Oak Grove Cemetery, which not only includes the burial site of Lizzie Borden (Lizbeth) and her family, but the resting places of several other famous historical figures! This tour is self-guided, GPS based audio tours, so they are available 24/7 and don’t require reservations! However, please be advised that Oak Grove Cemetery is not open on weekends and has odd hours, so make sure to double check the hours of operation before visiting in person!

Are there Ouiji boards available for use?

A:

No, we do not provide or permit the use of Ouiji boards or other conjuring devices in the house. The house is haunted enough as it is, and does not require any devices, so we ask that you respect this policy and refrain from doing so.
