Today, Arlington is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, but 9,000 years ago, it was largely open land occupied by the Guasco tribe. Though we’re not sure how long they were here, The Guasco was part of the Hasani Confederacy, which held lands in northeastern Texas until 1542 when the Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto arrived.
De Soto was not good to the local indigenous people, to say the least. He plundered tribes and imprisoned chiefs whenever possible. Before long, the Guasco vanished from the written record, leaving one to wonder just how many lost souls still watch Arlington from the shadows.
As Arlington grew, so did its legend. Toward the end of the 1800s, the city struck “liquid gold” (mineral-rich water) and attracted droves of curious visitors. Then, Arlington became a bona fide boomtown. Christmas Eve 1892 went down in infamy when four men and a horse were shot dead at the railroad station. Their sudden, violent end left an undeniable mark and gave the area four more phantoms forever searching for solace and peace.
Arlington is a popular place to live and visit, with more parks, museums, and other recreational areas than you can count. But what the brochures won’t tell you is that there’s a much darker side to Arlington that begs to be explored. Get up close and personal with Arlington’s best haunts when you book an Arlington ghost tour with Lizzie Borden Ghost Tours.
