Indianapolis’s history is chock-full of disasters and death, leading it to be known as a “superhighway” for spiritual activity. From its earliest days as a seasonal Native American village to the terrible accidents that took place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, something has gone awry.
In 1829, Indianapolis began to take shape as railroad lines crisscrossed through the Crossroads of America. Significant buildings were constructed, such as the Indiana State Capitol Building. Phantom sounds of the 19th century fill the halls of the modern building, along with the apparition of a Victorian woman.
The Civil War brought back the troublesome years of war it took to build the city. It became a central hub for transporting needed materials to the Union Army. The population exploded afterward as a new influx of people found work in the factories. The ghosts of German immigrants from this time haunt the Anatheaum Foundation. Ghost Hunters even paid a visit to its haunted walls.
Indianapolis remains eternally scarred by war, disaster, and violence stemming from four hundred years of history. Discover the spookiest tales of terror the city offers with Lizzie Borden Ghost Tours. Reserve your spot on an Indianapolis ghost tour with us tonight!
